I have been getting extremely confused lately with these people with just like a 3" BL and a T.T. being able to run 33s w/o rubbing. This guy has an Explorer on 33s with a 6" lift and said he rubbed (http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/426956). If there is anyone with a 2nd gen Explorer with 35s with a 6+ lift, please tell me/show me if you trimmed or rubbed at all. Also, if it will rub, how bad do you think it will rub? I don't care about cutting the plastic crap in the back of the wheel well, but the actually fender is what I do not want to cut. PLEASE HELP! I'm lifting my Explorer soon and need to order tires soon. I am going to run either Super Swamper SSR 33's or a smaller 35 (like a bfg mud-terrain). But I would really like to fit some 35" SSRs under there (they measure 35.3 and the 33s measure 33.4) THANKS EVERYONE/ANYONE!

forgot to say....

About how bad I will rub if I get 35's....I just want to know if my turning radius will suck real bad or if just the full left/right turns will make it rub!

Also, I'm not that big of an offroader, so this "rub issue" is just for turning radius and pavement driving only. Also I have a feeling I will be going offroad once I have it lifted!

Sorry and THANKS!

I really don't think you will rub very much. Only on full lock turns, will you rub.
The plastic will most likely come off, but I really do think that they would fit.

I'd say go for it!!!
:bounce:

7" should be plenty.
I would like to do that on my '94, but my dad won't let me get a BL

With a 2" TT and 3" body lift I had to cut two full inches of sheetmetal in the rear of the front fenderwells to clear my 35's and I STILL rub into the sheetmetal. Even if you stay on the street and with another 2" of lift there is no way you are going to clear 35" tires without cutting sheetmetal. In addition you will have to regear and that ain't cheap either. If you're not requiring extra clearance for the trail and this is mainly for looks, go with the 33's, they will still look killer. You may have to trim a little plastic with 33's, but you won't have to cut into sheetmetal.

Thanks a whole lot. I think I'll stick with the bigger 33's. Better price at that too! Thanks again. Big Help!

i can run 35's with no rubbing and no trimming except for the plastic with a 3" BL and TT

Do you have any pics of what you trimmed suzu?

That's interesting because when I put 35's on they literally hit the edge of the fender if I turned the wheel before trimming. I had to trim as much as Gerald described.

If you never hit a bump and never have to turn, this might be true. There is NO WAY you will be able to turn 35" tires without them hitting a lot of sheetmetal at the rear of the fenderwell.

I can vouch for that, i've got 265/75-16s (somewhere between a 32 and 33) with no lift and i have about 1/2" clearance at the back of the fenderwell with no trimming done... anything bigger without a massive lift and it would definately rub.

So there is no way to fit 35s with a 4" suspension lift and 3" body lift? I just don't want to trim the sheetmetal, plastic is fine. Thanks

Drew, I got a set of "smaller" 35x12.5s sittin here, if you want to try them out for size. If you are in Mechanicsville, I am only about 15 minutes away.

Robb- That would be perfect? What kind are they exactly? I'm not actually doing the lifting til end of august, but if you aren't using them and you don't have anything to do, i'll meet you somewhere or whatever. Are they mounted on wheels or are they just tires? Thanks Robb! HUGE HELP! If you have AOL Instant Messenger my screenname is davematthews112.

Just PM here when you get the lift done. They are Regul Trailblazers (run a little small), and are mounted on rims that will bolt right on. They are just sitting around, and I doubt they are going anywhere soon. If they are here when you want to try them out, just let me know and we can try them on.
