Are they based on a Dana Spicer build, or are they actually Ford 8.8 modified for independent suspension and aluminum case?

Just wonderin', as my Ford Shop Manual does not give a hint. imp

Ford 8.8

Ford 8.8 all the way. Same pinion / carrier bearings years 1982-2010. Axle bearings depend on model and the side gears in the carrier are different irs to solid axle 8.8.

Thanks, guys! That was what I thought. One thing throwing wrenches in my soup is the memory of a Ford-used "integral" type rear which did not use shims to locate and preload the diff. carrier bearings, had big nuts just like the 9-inch, but they were buried in the center section. imp
