Just wondering if anyone knows if 3rd gen wheels will fit a second gen explorer. I know they have the same bolt pattern, but I want to find information about backspacing and offset, if the requirements are the same, and if the center bores for the wheels are identical or not. I was trying to buy some replicas either 17s or 18s and fit them on my 99. If anyone has tried this or knows if it will/will not work, please let me know.

They will fit. There is about +20 to +25mm offset difference. So if you were to put the 3rd gen on your '99 the wheels will be tucked all the way in. It doesn't look too too bad but that's your call.
