4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

it's the same as the stock muffler... as in offset in, center out, 2.5. that is how my stock sport was set up. single in, single out. the whole thing was welded on at a local exhaust shop, the guy did a good job and was super nice. either way, it sounds a heck of a lot better than stock and with my mac intake, i get a bit more punch in the gas. it's nice.

Nice, should post up an exhaust clip. Been wanting to hear the 50 on a 4.0.

There was such a huge difference when I chopped my stock exhaust. 18 years is more than enough time to deteriorate that crummy steel piping they use. After I chopped the stock muffler off I opened it up, dumped out probably 10lbs of steel flakes. The resonator was completely plugged up too.

I've hopefully got a 3" intake pipe. Some lady in a nearby town is selling it on craigslist. $7, can't beat that.

But, anyway, exhaust clip FTW!

(Yes yes, I like to ramble, I'm going to shut up now.)

i got single in and dual out 40 series flows on my 01 sport i need to get a sound clip and a take off video of it one of these days.

eventually i am going to get true duals

I couldn't find the 2 downstream o2 sensor's (behind the cat's).
so i just checked again and guess what...
There gone :P
I guess the previous owner took them out and put plugs in.

So i'm thinking about removing the cat's while im at it.

explorer power

what kind x do u got

2nd gen '99 4.0 sohc
i think its a limited but i don't know how to tell

I just heard they do CO test over here.
So i won't pass them without the cats.
So i can't cut them off...
any more options?

it should say the model of ur explorer in the back of the trunk area it should say like xls or xlt or limited or xl or eddie baurer on it.

I'll look for it when i get it back from the shop.

It's in the back you say, on a panel or something?

some vehicles may pass the sniffer but if they look up under your truck and htey are gone, they will not pass it. Thats why I gutted mine, they are still there just empty and they dont use sniffers around here so Im not worried about my next Inspection. But just so you know technichly it is Illegal to run without em, but in some places the local PD might not care as long as its not putting off black smoke or friggen loud, but you are suppose to have a cat on there if it came stock with one just FYI :D

despite the problem of passing inspection i would recommend to take off your cats if you want a loud exhaust. i did so with my truck. im running a flowmaster 40 with no cats. i welded up a straigt pipe instead. it sounds great... a lot louder than with the cats on

explorer power

did u finally figure out what model explorer u got or not yet.

System installed today

Today I had a custom exhaust installed using a Magnaflow dual 2-1/4 inlet and 2-1/2 single outlet. The shop built new inlet pipes and a custom tailpipe. It sounds great. I have taken photos of the install but am not sure how to post them.
