I have a 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 OHV engine. I pulled the engine because I was having some oil leaks. I removed the camshaft position sensor but before I did, I marked the base in relation to the block. I then removed the sensor and moved onto some other things. I never rotated the sensor. I forgot the sensor was out and moved the crankshaft. I had marked the crank in relation to the flywheel and I moved the crank back to roughly where it was located when I pulled the engine and dropped in the camshaft position sensor. It lined up with my original marks, but I'm just not sure if it is in the right spot. Any tips on confirming the alignment?

Thanks,

Jim

I think I figured it out. I picked up a loan-a-tool cam sensor alignment tool from Autozone and popped it in place. Good thing I checked. I think I was one tooth off.

Just make sure you have #1 on TDC at the
compression stroke before installing the
synchro, and then align it with the tool.

Sounds like you've got it right, if the crankshaft
wasn't turned a full revolution and you put the
syncro and sensor back with the same relationship.
