i have swapped the 4.0 sohc for another 4.0 sohc. now i cant get the new engine to fire, the starter engages, and the motor turns freely with no ignition, i have changed the coil pack, also the security system went crazy once all the wires were hooked back up. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks

try to reprogram the security would be my startin point.

thanks ill give that a shot

Curious: What does "reprogram the security" mean? If the battery were disconnected first, then the engine swapped out, all wiring put back where it belongs, how could PCM know anything about this? imp

the security system may not recognize his key has nothing to do with the battery has to do with the chip in the key, the battery being out so long could have caused the problem.

Security Key

the security system may not recognize his key has nothing to do with the battery has to do with the chip in the key, the battery being out so long could have caused the problem.

It is my understanding that failing to ID the key results in no response at all regarding the "start" function. His engine cranks, but will not start. I think this indicates his key is being "recognized".

I could be wrong. imp

what would have caused the security system to go haywire?

If you just changed the motor, but kept the same computer and key, it shouldn't be a security issue. If you swapped computers, you will definitely have issues with the security system.

Are you hearing the fuel pump whine when the key is on but not trying to start? You should hear the pump kick in for a couple seconds when the key is turned to run.

the truck will crank all day but wont start if it dosent recognize the key, go down to wally world and have a spare made without the chip, itll unlock the doors and the column but it will only crank the starter.... just dealt with this on a 01 ex when installing a remote start for a customer.....

ps just having the batt. out for the length of time of the engine swap may have caused the security system to lose its memory, its not hard set into the system its "flashed" on.

would this issue of the security system cause zero compression? or something bigger?

no u should still have comp. it either cuts the fuel or the spark i dont rember off hand if its one or the other on the fords

♠it is getting fuel and spark, the engine has been in storage for awhile according to the place i bought it from. there mechanic is telling me to take the valve covers off, and tap the valves because they may be stuck due to it being in storage for a long while, does this sound correct?

No..if the valves are stuck it wasn't stored properly and may be damaged. Have you done a compression test on every cylinder?

my truck will NOT crank if i use an unprogramed key. Id venture this is likely a bad ignition source.

no not on every cylinder just number 1

It could have a stuck or bent valve on the no 1 cylinder.
