Does anyone have a successful story on rebuilding their SOHC engine? I bought a used engine to rebuild and I have tore it all the way down but man is this thing a PITA! I have already done all the research for the parts and everything to rebuild it (gaskets, rings, main & rod bearings, timing set etc...) is going to cost in the neighborhood of about $800. Not including any machine work or the cam tool set.

To say the least, when I couldn't get one of the lifters out of the head and it came apart on me, I got pretty discouraged about it and yesterday I bought a engine from an '05 mustang.

I just wanted to hear if someone else has had attempted and completed the rebuild on one of these. This is not my first rebuild but I am sure it will not be my last but I know one thing for sure, this one is getting scrapped!

There are lots of success stories - take a look at Dale's Helpful Threads .

One of these days I'll get around to writing up my super-cheap rebuild - ebay gasket set, 1/3rd of a no-name Chinese knockoff timing kit, and re-used head bolts. Runs like a champ.
