4.0 to 4.6 engine swap

I was wondering if anyone has done an engine swap in an 05 explorer/mountaineer and how complicated would it be.

Very complicated and time consuming. It is generally considered more worthwhile to sell the 4.0 vehicle and buy a whole 4.6 explorer. Can it be done? Yes. But there is an unholy amount of switching over components in the engine bay for it.

See i've read some places its complicated and some places that it's easy. I could just buy one with a V8 but that takes the fun out of it, especially now that its become more of a project vehicle now. Plus if i do the swap i plan on tearing down the 4.6 and completely rebuilding it cause there no sense in just throwing in a stock 4.6 if your gunna do it. Its going to have a bit more than 240 horses haha.

If you're looking for a project then I would say it's not beyond reason to do, especially if you're going to do a rebuild. On that note, I would say go the extra mile and swap in a 5.4 to it instead. It has been done before, although the resources are quite limited.

Thats true i thought about the 5.4 but i never really liked the 5.4. Not to get off the topic of this thread but i was woneri.g if i could message you regarding a few things youve done to yours. There were a few things youve done i could really use some help with.
