4.0L problems

I have checked prices from several places that sell the reman 4.0's and they all are $2300ish.

 $2300ish that is a lot. Out here in utah you can get a V8 from an 06 IDK how many miles with the transmission & running for $700.00. EDIT: My bad $750 :)

^ I said a remanufactured 4.0 w/ 0 miles. but the only motors i have found from a junkyard are $12-1500 w/ 60-70k miles.

Still is a lot for a remanufactured (IMO). I think for a new/rebuild 4.0L engine from ford isn't too much more or less than that. Unless that price is from ford...

car-parts.com i think is the website i been thinking of.

someone can correct me if im wrong with this. i think other users have used them for eng, trans, etc.

as long as the intake ports are cut the same manner i would say yes.

i think ford uses 3 different heads tho, i would check into that first. head intake ports might be different shape. and the intake manifold wont seal right.

also the only other difference is 4x4 and 4x2 the 4x4 has a balance shaft, the 4x2 dont. you can search this forum for the balance shaft.

So then worst case scenario. If i buy a 4.0 from a 2001 model i might have to use the heads i have also? i.e prolly buy one since one of mine is already busted

crank sensor, and dampner are different on the 01 to 04 think the 04 is the first year of the change, i think a few other changes, ckp and some minor stuff.

for something i used to do in 6 hrs i guess i'm too tired today to come up with a full list i'm see if i can get a better list later.

Thank you i appreciate you taking the time.

I read this thread and the only thing i got out of it was the 2wd motors don't have a balance shaft and the 4wd motors do. My 04' Explorer is a 2wd. so if i get a motor from a 4wd i will need to remove the balance shaft?

you can leave it in, its suppose to remove a drive train vibration on 4x4 vehicles. it will have no effect on a 4x2.
