Hello all,
I had my 01 Explorer sport 4wd re-geared about 30k miles ago from the stock 3.73 to a 4.56 because I was running 35" tires. I moved from NC to CO and I know I lost about 20% of my power by moving there due to elevation. I never had my PCM reprogrammed to match the new gears, but everything was running fine until recently. About once a week while I am cruising at 55-60 mph on a straightaway, my RPM's are running at 3100-3200 rpm's which is not where it should be unless the engine is pulling. I don't think my engine should be pulling on a straightaway considering the 31-3200 rpm's is what I usually see when I am climbing a hill. I just had a Ford dealership check it out and no surprise they found nothing wrong but got a sweet $200 for it. They told me I couldn't reprogram my PCM because of the gearing and tire size I have. I feel like this isn't true. Can someone give some clarification on why I can't reprogram my PCM or where I can go to have someone help me out with this issue?
Thanks,
Taylor
