1993 ford explorer XLT
I have a 1993 explorer XLT and I just tried to use my 4WD and when I pushed the button nothing happens. I have read that the shifting module might be bad. I have not tried the diag. yet but I also read that there is a bumper in the motor on the transfer case that goes bad. Has anyone put a new bumper in yet and how is this done.

Lightly tap it, it works for starters too.

I will look at it this weekend and get back to you to let you know how I made out

If it is the plastic bumper, I found a nylon bushing at Ace hardware. It was in the slide bins with all the oddball fasteners and such. The hole in the middle was too small so drilled it out to the correct size, then cut the bushing down to fit the peg in the motor. Cost? all of 42cents. Arne.

Arne 13, would that be the same on the '94 model?

The light on the dash comes on when you push the button in the dash right? You should hear the shift motor clunk into gear. I do believe there is some relay or something related to the shift motor behind the driver side panel in the back backyou could make sure is functioning. I suppose making sure the shift motor is still alive is the place to start. All my 4x4 issues have been with the hubs and u joints. Hoping yours will be okay once you get power to the front!
