my factory flat plug was ripped off, so I just spliced on an aftermarket plug, 4 wires,.. 3 of the 4 match color for color, ford plug has 1 that is black with white stripe which I mated to the brown wire,... it seemed logical since all of the others matched up color for color.

my problem is that on the trailer, the drivers side brake and blinker do not work
if I plug the trailer into another vehicle it works, so I know it is NOT the trailer,

I haven't dug into it yet, I figured I would seek advice here before I start dinking,
it seems the replacement harness is about $25, just seeing if anyone knows if my wires are correct before I dig into it too bad

Wiring, Trailer Towing

Hi Rich,
The 99 Explorer wiring on my car is as follows:
Yellow wire= Left turn and left brake light
Dark green wire= Right turn and brake light
Brown wire with white strip = Park lights
Black wire= Ground

I would guess you have your ground mixed up.
Mike

Thanks so much, I will check into that:thumbsup:
