So I decided to do the M5r2/ 4406 swap on my 97 limited. When I had the transfercase on the bench, I was manually shifting it and I noticed that it only seemed to have 4WD low and 2WD high. Was I just not pulling the lever far enough forward or is there a problem?

This isn't currently an issue but come winter it will be. Does anybody know anything about the 4406?

they are stiff as hell to shift even in the truck. try pulling to the side and down and see if it goes in

Also try turning the output shaft while shifting it

I agree

It is so difficult to shift like that, and, the 2wd to 4hi is such a slight detent, you might be banging right past it.

Try clamping a vice grip plier to it. this will give you more of a lever, and more control.

Ya turdle I think you're right, even if I was spinning the output shaft it was still hard as hell to move by hand and when it did it was all or nothing.
