I have a 1996 Explorer 4x4 that has the 4r55e. About 2 mile into my drive I had a sudden loss of all gears. Rev the engine while sitting still and the vehicle moves and inch or two forwards or backward depending on drive or reverse. 4x4 engaged same results.

You can feel the transmission engage. The drive shafts turn ever so slightly with heavy depression of accelerator. When in neutral the vehicle rolls as it should.

Just changed out the separator plate gaskets, new filter and fluid to see if this would help but no luck.

No noise or mechanical work done before sudden loss. I realize that I may be in for a new transmission but would really like to make sure the cause is not front or rear end related or transfer case related.

Any help appreciated

Sorry but I really need to bump back to the top

What did your old fluid look like? Your dealing with a transmission problem from the symptoms you describe.

It was not nice new red, a little dark maybe but not burnt either. I have only just started working on this again after several months so in not sure of the exact color.

You may want to take a cooler line off at the radiator and start engine and see if the fluid is circulating. make sure you have a container to catch fluid in. How many quarts of fluid did it take to fill after VB service?

Pump is working. Not sure of the pressure. My gauge is off but i have pressure

You need to have 60-80 in park/neutral 70-110 in rev.

Sounds like a torque converter failure..yank it
