Firstly, I'd love to use the search feature but for some reason it doesn't work on my phone which is currently my only internet.

Today, I activated my 4wd and left it on for essentially the first time. Whenever I would turn, it would make a noise from the front that sounded first like tires rubbing (I have stock size wheels and tires though...), then would progress to a clunking sound. After a while both the 4wd and low lights started flashing. Can anybody tell me (or make an educated guess) what's going on with my truck?

Nobody has any idea? I really expected more from so-called enthusiasts.

i am by no means an enthusiast since i am pretty new to the explorer thing but i hear the same sound on my 98 xlt. one question - were you on regular pavement when you heard the noise?

also did it get worse the sharper you turned your wheel? my dad is a mechanic and he told me it is not good (even in 2wd) to turn the wheel extremely sharp because it wears out seals in the axles.

thread is a lil old but to either of you if its a selectable trasnfer case and not AWD its not supposed to be in 4wd on any ground that wont allow some slippage for turning soooooo turning on cement wouldn't exactly be smart for the axles
