Is there any reason that it would make any sense for a mechanic to charge me 619 bucks for a right front hub on a 1995 ford ranger 4x4? I seem to have gotten really ripped off. I wish I had done my research before okaying the service. The wheel hub assembly change parts and labor was 642 bucks with the hub itself costing 619 bucks. That seems crazy. Can anyone provide me with any insight about how to go about lodging a complaint. or is the hub supposed to be that much?:(

I deleted the other thread.
Please post questions once. somebody will get back to ya.

Sounds kinda steep to me though.
Are you sure the labor charges and parts charges aren't reversed-
sounds like a bookeeping--um-"error" (stunt)

?

The labor was only 53 bucks. I don't see a hub assembly anywhere online for more than 250. The fix only took about 3.5 hours. Do you think that I could get anywhere with calling the mechanic and complaining? I have never used mechanics before. My Dad always fixed my cars, but he didn't really like any help or do much teaching. Thus, I am real good at diagnosing but not so hot at repairs. Thanks for your help.

Maybe the mechanic got the part from a dealer, and then doubled the price?

It sure can't hurt to go back and question him on it. Bring with you printouts of a range of prices from online, and check the dealer price too.

I'm guessing these are automatic hubs? Cuz you can buy new Warn manual hubs and conversion kit for under $200...

Welcome to the forum.

...what he ^^^ said...here is a price i know is correct from 4wheelparts that i posted on 2/22/08 with part #'s...this fit both first gen X's and my 95 ranger...these are also for manual hubs only but it also has the conversion nuts prices....there is also a warn conversion nut prices of 56 bucks that is not needed if you use the other one in the link...btw, the hubs are only sold new in pairs...;)
