1992 Ford Explorer XLT
so my 1992 Explorer XLT wont shift into 4x4. ill push the 4hi button on the dash and nothing will happen, the light wont even come on. i was thinking it could be the shift motor but i'm wondering if you guys think it could be a more serious electrical issue.

Probably a vacuum problem with the front axle. Shift encoder motor is just for range shifts H-N-L.
Edit: there is a good 4x4 troubleshooting article here search for it.

1st Gens aren't vacuum operated, so it's not that.
99% of the time, it's the shift motor. They do that with age.
There's a couple good stickied threads, one about 4wd troubleshooting, one about shift motor rebuild.

1994 ford ranger 4 wheel drive will not work at all. The 4th x 4 lights on dash are lit up but nothing happens.
