Yesterday I put my explorer into 4x4 high and the light in the gauge cluster began blinking. This continued after I took it out of high and would blink about 6 times then shut off for about 1 minute. It kept doing this until this morning when I got in my explorer and it hasn't happened since. Are there any suggestions as to what could be causing ths? I recall reading oe time that it is an indicator for a faulty sensor somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

that pattern sounds like it was a trouble code

its time to clean the shift motor to see if it helps.. do a search on the 4wd lights flashing 6 times.. Or if you have a scanner thats capable of reading those codes, you can find out why.

I had the same problem with my Ex. All I did was un-plug the plug at the shift motor and clean the inside with WD-40. Never had a problem since. I think the flashing might mean that the 4x4 didn't quite engage. Give it a go.

Flashing 4x4 lights could also be a faulty speed sensor, have you checked your fluid level in the T-case?I just had the same problem and a fluid change cured the flashing lights.
