4x4 problem

I'm a newbie and i need your help. i have a 2001 explorer sport trac and the 4x4 is not engaging. when i turn the the switch to 4x4 no light comes on and the it does not engage. all i hear is a clicking on the passenger side wall that sound like a relay or something. is there any advice?

I had a problem where it was stuck in 4 high.Moving the switch would not get it back into 2wd.The 2wd light was lit, but it was still in 4 high.There qwas no clicking noises on the passenger side of the dash like there normally was.I had to remove the shift motor and manually put it back into 2wd.What could be the problem? I checked the fuse on the drivers side of the dash and it appears to be fine.Im lost and my wife needs to use the ST and there is a crap load of snow out here.

is the shift motor easy to remove and where could i find some intstructions on how to remove it. thanks for the info.
