In the future, I would love to get rid of the 4.0 OHV and the garbage transmission behind it. I'm looking into swapping a 302 into the truck, but I don't like the idea of going through the trouble of putting one in from a 96+ Explorer, as the conversion to OBDII is more trouble than it's worth, it adds a lot of unnecessary features, and I dislike the AWD they come with. I figure my best bet is to buy a donor vehicle with the 302 and an AOD attached to it. This will probably end up being a cougar or a thunderbird or a mustang. What transfer cases can be used on an AOD? Does it matter if the tranny is 2WD? Are adapters needed? What modifications have to be done as far as driveshafts go? Can I keep the front and rear axles already in my truck?
