2000 Explorer XLT AWD, 120000 miles. Last weekend I replaced the timing cover gasket, lower intake manifold gasket (both leaking). As long as I was in there, I also replaced

-upper hose
-lower hose
-water pump
-timing chain
-thermostat

Checked for leaks and everything great. Drove the truck for about 10 miles, lost oil pressure. Pulled to the side of the road and there was oil everywhere! Had it towed back home. Discovered that the dipstick tube had rusted out and the oil pump quit. Coincidence? What could have gone wrong? Thanks -

If you lost your full oil supply to the pump it very well could have seized it(the pump). I have noticed my dipstick it rusted through a little too. Right near the exhaust manifold.

Might want to attach an actual oil pressure gauge to it just to verify you lost pressure as our gauge is more of an on,off dummy light type gauge than one that actually measures pressure. Good luck.

The engine was clankin' pretty good when I lost pressure.......I hope it isn't junk
