Got some questions for those of you who are interested in helping my tackle a project. I am looking into removing some of the components of the ignition system and relace it with some MSD parts. First off, I want to get rid of that electronic distributor setup they have and go with PN-8455 (L1) but I am not sure what all is involved. Next, possibly a new, more powerfull coil, MSD-8201 (L2). I have picked out a new ignition from a previous experience (hence, why I like MSD) which improved my mustang dramatically, MSD 6BTM (L3). If anyone has gone through a process of replacing any of this stuff, I would really like to hear your input. I am about to start with my engine mods soon and would like to have my research done before I delve into this knee deep. Thanks to everyone!

If you have a 1998 5.0 setup, you dont have to worry about any "electronic distributor setup".
YOU DON'T HAVE ONE! The 1998 5.0 is a DISTRIBUTORLESS ENGINE. I have read past posts concerning the subject you are pondering, but no action was ever taken. Remember, that distributorless ignition system has a lot of wires and computers that go with it. Weeding out all those wires and computers and still making the car work would be quite a project!

My question to you is: Is your ignition system causing you so much trouble now that requires replacing? Do you know that MSD makes an ignition system for Distributorless engines such as yours?

Good Luck
Al

yeah, I know...

I do know that this engine is distributorless although there must be a way to convert it back to the way the 302 used to be... with a distributor. I am looking for simplicity and also to have an engine that I can work with. I did not know that MSD had a distributorless setup although, i will look into it. I guess my question is, is it possible? I mean, i know that I should be able to put a distributor in but wouldn't that transfer what is electronic to a mechanical sort of system? I am learning. And about the reasoning, I believe that a better ignition system would give me stronger spark for when I begin with my engine mod's. Yes? Let me know what you all think and if you think it would be worth it.

i posted about this earler. we did this on Trolls truck and it is very hard and i do not recomend this. you only need to do this if you have something radical like what we put in the troll. lot of money and very expensive if you want call me and i will tell you the best way to do it.
