5.9 limited jeep kill!

i annnihilated a 5.9 jeep late last night racing down a highway on ramp. we were side by side (in two turn lanes waiting) and i took the regular on ramp and he took the car pool lane and i beat him by forever (like three or four lengths by the time we were going 65 or 70 at the bottom). just letting ya know! btw- those things are fast for a stock truck aren't they! this one was stock but with sort of a fart can exhaust.

Ya my best friend has a 5.9. His ran a 15.2 stock. Now he's lifted 5 1/2 inches, and trying to sell it.

But w/ all your **** i could see how you beat him.

15.2 stock? are you sure thats not a 16.2? by my crude calculations to get a (roughly) 5000lb. GC to run low 15's you would need about 350 hp.

BTW- good kill drew.;)

if I remember, my friends 5.9 Grand Cherokee didn't way near 5,000lbs, somewhere around 4500lbs, their not that heavy.

He ran a 15.5 at the track, had a lot of problems with it though and finnaly got rid of it. The 5.9 is known to blow head gaskets which happened twice, mad electrical gremlins causing problems, two transmissions with the last one about to go before he sold it, and a bunch of other crap, sold it after a year and a half. It was fast off the line, but ran out of breathe quickly after 60mph.

Well, I've beaten them......

:p

A 1998 4WD Grand Cherokee 5.9L Limited has a curb weight of 4232 lbs. 15.2 is about where I've seen them run. Most reviews put them from 15.2 - 15.5 in the 1/4.

in my experience they aren't quite 15.2 fast stock, i thnk 15.5 or even 15.7 is a lot closer to the actual time. anyone know what the hp rating and such is on those vehicles?

245 HP @ 4000 RPM, 345 ft/lbs @ 3200 RPM

I went w/ him to the track. Matter fact i video taped it. 15.2...yep that's right...

damn... a 15.2 is what i ran with a "small" shot of nitrous.... i feel as though i have no testicles now.... and 4232 is ALMOST EXACTLY what my X weighed on the scales.... i had no idea.... i guess im off to the Jeep/Dodge dealership...

:p J/K

whats the redline? stock gearing/

That seems kinda slow and low HP for a 5.9 engine. Think about if you had a Ford 5.8 in you Explorer! It would fly. I am not that impressed with J@@ps at all.

5.8? i didnt know fords had 5.8.. i know f150s and expe come with 5.4

5.8 liters = 351 CI ;)

slow? SLOW??? a 15.2 is not slow... like i said, you would need a 5 liter with nitrous to run a 15.2..... and while yes 245hp is not great for a 360, it has almost 350 ft. lbs. of torque. and lets face it, torque is the big mover in a stock sport ute, not hp.

i will admit i have always liked the 360. not as much as 5.0efi ford, but i liked it none the less... if it werent for the lower retail of the V8 explo, i would be driving a Durango right now. yes, i said it, so go ahead and flame me.:D ultimatly i bought a V8 explo because i wanted a midsize 'ute that i could fix up (street) and tow with. if it werent for the extra price of the durango and the very very POS dodge tranny, i would have one.

dont worry, even though im in better $$$ shape now, im not getting rid of the X.;)

i can't figure out how the durango with the 5.9 can be as much slower than the jeep as it is. they can't weigh that much more can they?

4480 for the 2wd 5.9 liter, and 4700 for the 4wd/awd 5.9.... the 4.7 or whatever it is is about 150lbs. lighter in both versions... so it shouldnt be hardly any slower than the grand cherokee.

also, the durango 360 has 335ft.lb. of torque instead of 345ft.lbs.
