I just bought a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport (2dr) that is throwing the fabled O/D Light blink at me. Here's the situation:
If I accelerate normally, the shifting is smooth with no over-rev and cycles through full range. However, when I start to slow down, the O/D light will start to blink and the tranny will then go into limp mode.
I can't switch the O/D off unless I shut off the engine and restart.
If I switch the O/D off from the get go, the transmission will cycle normally, and the O/D light never starts blinking no matter how long I drive it.
At NO time does the check engine light come on, so I don't think it's transferring a code to the ECM, and from what I understand, unless you read the code while the lights blinking, it will just flash the memory and clear itself out.
The fluid isn't smelling burnt, and doesn't look brown or dark.
Any suggestions on where to look in this situation?
