Hello:
I purchased a 97 XLT 4.0 SOHC this weekend, and had a quick question about the transmission. I was doing some research and found from looking at the transmission code on the build sticker that it's a D. Doing a little more research, and how I stumbled onto this site, I found that it is a 5R55E Transmission. So here's my question....
The previous owners dog had gotten a hold of the column shifter and chewed the end of it off. I was going to buy a shifter and replace it, but while looking at a few salvage sites for the part, it asked me if it has Overdrive or not. So I was wondering, is there a simple way to tell if this transmission has overdrive? From looking at the end, there are three "tubes" that run down the center of the shifter. It looks like in two of the tubes; there are two wire pins down in there. I would assume that would be the wires for the overdrive, but I wanted to post the question to a group of people more knowledgeable about Explorers than myself. (Only had it for a day now)
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
