05 Explorer xlt v6 4x4
Hey all, got an 05 explorer 4x4 v6. Got in wouldn't start. I believed it to be a an issue withe the TRS. A friend looked at it and has installed a push button to operate the starter. When he returned to me. Said it was going to have to have a new tranny.
Because now it will not shift out of third until high rpm and then skips 4th after revving high. Could this new problem be TRS related.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

IMO, yes. The TRS may be faulty, damaged, or loose on it's mounting. It "tells" the transmission which solenoid must be activated, for R, D, 3, 2, & 1, I believe. TRS also allows starting only in P or N. If the vehicle should start suddenly while in gear, it may lurch forward or backward, posing extreme risk, especially since these engines "speed-up" momentarily when starting. The push button switch is not a good idea. Use it for your doorbell. imp

A computer controlled transmission may not work right if a sensor or switch is malfunctioning. If you had a scanner and could watch the data and figure out what is not working correctly and check for trouble codes, anything short of that would be guessing.

Your description of the problem makes me think its missing a gear and that particular vehicle is known for broken bands and servo problems which can cause symptoms like that.

Maybe take it to someone who is familiar with transmissions and they can check it for you.
