5r55s to 5r55e?

I have a 99 Ex with the 5r55e that is rusted beyond help, and I'm looking at picking up a cheap 04 Mountaineer with a busted trans (5r55s). I asked a Ford Mechanic friend, and he tells me they are a direct swap even with the separate bell housing, dipstick tube, etc, but has anyone done this? This would be a very cheap and easy fix for me if so. Thanks in advance!

5R55S will not fit in place of a 5R55E.

For one thing the electrical connections and electrical components are completely different, and the 5R55S bellhousing is not removeable.
