84 Bronco II Eddie Bauer with shifter issues.

I recently picked up this truck and while off roading my shifter keeps going "free". I lose all gears and the shifted moves freely. It happened when I first got it and the rubber bushing inside the shifted was destroyed. After the second happening I pulled the shifter expecting the same this and the bushing was fine. any body have any ideas on what the issue could be.

is this a 5speed or A4LD ?


A4LD (Auto trans) possibly shifter motor fried, or the clutches dead...


5speed, check the shift linkage maybe it fell apart?, also i dunno if the BII 5speeds have it, but maybe a broken guide pin? .... also could be a Clutch problem most likely time for a new one...

5 speed. Or 4 with an overdrive. Manual.

Your transfer shifter is not slipping back to the neutral position is it?
Mine has done this on occasions, and then you get nothing.

yeah im interested bk my cousins bII had the same prob, and i never went over there to mess w it. let us know what happens
