88 4 banger =500$

But actually if you want a quick car for not alot of money - fox body mustangs w/ 5.0L are a dime a dozen, you could probably start w/ a 5.0L base in decent/better condition to the one you're looking at now for less than $1500. And this would give you a much better base to build on.

p.s. anything post 1987 is preferable

Doesn't troll have a roll cage? Thats not very sleeper to me. Sleeper is a Chevette or a Vega with a 350/350 :) Fox bodies are great little getters.

The last time I saw Troll's interior is when he got the Sparco seats and he didn't have a roll cage then. A sleeper is defined as something that you never suspect. If you had a Cobra and made it faster, it's not a sleeper because it was fast to begin with. But from a 17 second 1/4 mile to a 10 second 1/4 is an extremely big jump. Even if I wasn't a Ford fan/explorer owner, Troll would still be one of my favorite sleepers.

i disagree a little.

a sleeper is something that you don't expect to beat you when its sitting beside you...

if i took a hyundai accent and put a 1000 hp american motor in it and it looked stock it would be a sleeper. however, if it was obviously a race car and everyone could tell on the street when they saw it then it would lose its sleeper status. Troll does not have true sleeper status in my eyes.

Buick grand national the epitomy of sleeper. thats one sweet car

ok, how the hell is a gn a sleeper?

they are only sleepers if you've never seen one before... and chances are if you have never seen one before you don't even know the definition of sleeper.

If i saw a hyundai accent that pumped out 1000hp right next too me the noise it was making alone would tell me it wasn't a sleeper cause i wouldnt be able to sleep for weeks after i heard it.

Lots of vehicles only have exhaust so that shouldn't make a difference.

take off the badges on a gn and put some cheap steelies on it and. go out on the street and rev on some ricers. ill bet you none of them think twice about racing it. and the grand nationals looks dont scream fast to anyone out there. so id consider it a sleeper

you guys cant tell me an 87 dodge lancer isnt a sleeper

I still don't get how you don't think it is. He has wheels and exhaust, like other cars out there and that's all they have. The only thing that might make you think is the hood (or cobra emblems maybe). I've never seen an explorer faster than mine in person. Any time I do a red light race and beat someone they look awfully suprised to see what I'm driving. Ford didn't make the explorer a speed demon from the factory, so as anyone might suspect, it's just an average suv with typical mods.

Not trying to argue at all, but what makes Troll un-sleeper like?

ok fine- troll is pretty close to being a sleeper (although i still think i'd know what i had coming if i took a close look at it)

as for the grand national- unless your a complete noob you've seen them before, and would know exactly what was going on.

imo a gn is the exact opposite of a sleeper, its not even as fast as most people think it is

Of course you would, you know all about him. But to some avid Chevy man who saw this for the first time, the only things that might give him away are the supercharger whine and the lopey idle.

And the GN is not that damn fast. A friend of mine bragged about his dads forever. Finally we took it out one nite and was impressed, but not as much as I thought I'd be. All I've heard are GN/cyclones/typhoons are redicuously fast. They are fast, but not as fast as the hype around them.

Now that GN in the video where he smokes tires on the dyno, that's fast. Def. not a sleeper though

yeah, a gn was very fast back in the day when the were manufactured.

unless they've been heavily modified since they really aren't all that fast at all now. the world has gotten faster in the interim

I would like to thank TSTONE because now i finally found the muffler tip I've always been looking for

so how much would it cost to transform this 4cyl to a 351 stroker? lol and my def of sleeper is - say quiet mustang no rumble or very little and a krylon specail (look like crap) which is what im going for, since i dont want this car to stand out for certain reasons but need it to pick up and GO when it needs to.
