I have an 1966 ford bronco 28 spline 9 inch rear end in my 86 bronco 2, question is can i put a 3 member with 31 spline in that housing and just change axles to match,

- 93 4 dr 4x4 manual XL.
You can do that, just be sure the shafts are the same length. I have an old 9 inch that seems to have a rare axle length, I had problems finding replacement axles, so keep that in mind.

This would be the PERFECT time to find a deal on a loaded 3rd member with your gears. Ebay is a good source, I got mine from a dude on fullsizebronco.net. 200 bucks with 5.14"s (with one run on them) and a full spool
