Hi NavajoMatt,
The original Navajo Stock radio is exactly like the Ford Explorer one, except that it should say Mazda on the radio. If it has an Ford Radio in it, they work the same, but some ideas come to mind. The radios often break down; However, if sound is coming ouut of the back, then it is not the radio. It is what is called a component head unit, meaning it needs an external amplifier to power speakers. This can be found in the passenger side rear panel of your truck.
If it has a different radio, it could be that the original driver put an aftermarket radio in it, and then used an amp bypass in the system to cut out the stock amplifier. If he did this, he might have put a stock radio back in, whatever he or she could find, when it was to be sold, but forgot to take the amp bypass out.
The next idea is that one of the fuses is blown for the radio. Check the fuse box. If you don't know which fuse it is, buy a Hayes manual at an autoparts store, or just look in one. It will tell you what each fuse is connected to.
The next idea is that the amplifier is blown. In that case, just buy a radio with good RMS power, and use that instead of trying to fix the amp.
Another idea is that he or she also replaced the speakers with aftermarkets and took them too, if they were being sorta cheap. Maybe those aren't hooked up. easiest way is to check the rear. Take your fingernails and press down on the top of the rear grills, then pull out. Check the backs. If they were messed around with they might have the factory plastic speaker connectors cut off. If so, no prob, just splice together.
Last idea is the remote lead isn't connected soomewhere in the system, so the amp isn't being told to turn on.
That's all I can think of. Good luck,
Jon
