I know nothing about cars.
I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport (2dr) and when I pulled into work, the car started idling violently. I dismissed it as possibly the ac compressor at the time. After work, it went right back to it right off the start and the CEL starting flashing. I pulled over into the gas station, checked under the hood and had no coolant. Filled her up and same thing.
The check engine light has been on now for ~6 months due to an possible evap leak. I don't have the money for smoke test and repair. (dealership quote:thumbdwn
After some research, I'm thinking a a hose could have came lose or possibly dry rotted with the other thought of it being a misfire but I want to turn here to ask for suggestions on what to check for. Maybe you could share a video how to etc...
A lot will tell me to take it in but being TIGHT on money, I'd like to take the initiative to see if I can't find a cheaper way to efficiently fix it.
Any leads would be appreciated, thanks for reading.
