92 A4LD

Hi everyone.

I have a 92 ford ranger XLT with an A4LD transmission. About a month ago it started leaking at the bell housing, so I started the project of disassembling it.

While inside I replaced the front seal, rear main, filter, pan gasket and torque converter.

After replacement of the TC, the truck is shaking in park, and in all gears. The truck is also struggling to go into overdrive, the RPMs shot way up, and it didn’t shift properly. so at that point I parked it.

If anyone has any ideas what my issues could be, i’m all ears. I was very careful when seating the TC, making sure it was engaged properly and never went into a nose down position during installation. I’m worried the TC could be out of balance, maybe?


OD worked fine before.

The vibration in park wont be the transmission itself and very well could be the converter or flex plate.

Its hard to say what it is but I have had a few rebuilt converters be out of balance, only advice I got is to make sure its not a engine misfire then pull it back out and have the converter warrantied/replaced and double check everything along the way.

This is where i’m at. I think it’s out of balance.

I’m gonna pull it today or tomorrow and i’ll let you guys know my findings.
