'92 Explorer Eddie Bouer
Hi i Have a 1992 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4x4, I bought it in mid February of this year and in April the intake gasket blew. I finally got the time to try to fix it but now it has a really rough idle. I've gone back over everything and all my vacuum hoses are reconnected in the proper places, and the Spark plug wires are connected properly, i don't have access to an OBD1 scanner and the engine light doesn't come on. I was wondering if you had any ideas on what to check.

Over the internet, I can't independently verify these things, so I have to take your word for it. If you have any doubt, check them again. While you're at it, double check other connections (like fuel injectors).

A paper clip and a functional CEL can serve as a trouble code reader. I would probably pull codes just to see if the computer can see something that I may have forgotten to plug in.

I would probably also check fuel pressure.

Does it only run rough at idle? Does it smooth out if you give it a little throttle? Maybe the IAC valve has an issue.

Yeah it's only rough at an idle, it is completely smooth by 3000rpm. Some of the injector connector clips did brake on one side but they seem to be holding, i know its something i need to replace later on. I'll try checking the fuel pressure when i get a chance to work on it again.
