I finally took ownership of another first generation X again after a long 2.5 year separation. I sold my Sport model in 5/2016, and have been looking for another Explorer to replace it.

Well today I took ownership of Tyler’s 93 Red Eddie Bauer on a 4” lift and 33’s.

Congrats on your “new” X, even if it does have two “extra” doors. :p

Of my 1G Explorers, two were four doors and one two door, I had a 2G EB four door as well.

I have a two door Beemer Convertible, so the two extra doors don’t bother me, my back injury from the Army hinders my ability to buckle up the ones that utilize a car seat or booster, so a four door is welcomed.

I’m ready to get it legal again after its last registration in 2015. I hope to run it through a state inspection and get new plates for it tomorrow.

It shouldn’t be too hard for inspection, because it’s just a safety inspection, so it’s very basic here in SE Missouri.

I’m pretty partial to the first generation as well.

...snip snip...

That was just a joke, since I knew your previous X was a Sport! :)

I got the new shocks in today mounted in the factory location, and removed the tired ones that were utilizing the lower sway bar mount. I also installed the sway bar and the extended links Tyler @red.EDDIE.4x4 made for me.

I have also been painting the roof rack, as the original paint had faded considerably. I’m painting it gloss black and hope to get the lights back on it as it was built with. I shot it with a gloss charcoal gray spray paint first before laying on the gloss black. I ran out of paint during these pictures, so I have to wait another day to finish the job.

Well I laid out another two coats of gloss black paint and got the rack back on the truck.

The parts that I used for mounting it.

I finished up the steering stabilizer reinstall. Tyler took it off years ago, all I did is buy new grade eight bolts and used plenty of loctite.

I pulled my old headers out from storage that my old 92 explorer had on it. I saved them before I watched it get crushed back in 2014. I am trying out the ceramic header paint. Three coats of primer, and so far two coats of flat red ceramic paint.

I masked off the back corners that always fade and look crappy, and hit them with gloss black paint. I will do the door trims between the sets of doors later after this cold front passes by.

I also modded a third generation front license plate bracket to fit the first generation bumper. It looks kinda crappy, but it beats having the front license plate being held on by one bolt. The bracket was free, so I made it work.

It snowed a little bit here, and I needed to lock it in to four wheel drive, due to a lack of a locker in the rear. It wasn’t too deep except in one spot in my yard, and it required the front diff to plow through it.

A few more updates:

I deleted the spotlight Tyler installed years ago, it was my least favorite part about it besides the automatic transmission. I had a big enough bolt to put in its place and some black silicone for the remainder. It looks as though I could get another door seal and patch it in. I also mounted my light bar I had sitting around.

I bought a set of fx4 decals for a Ranger, unfortunately the driver side is a bit crooked.

Tyler made me a replacement decal for my Army unit I went to Iraq with.
