93 Eddie Bauer build

I still need several key critical parts to even begin the swap.

1) clutch
2) pedal assembly
3) new or resurfaced current flywheel
4) m5od wiring harness
5) shifter rebuild kit and rubber plug replacement
6) manual transmission computer

I know that number six on the list isn’t “necessary”, but if I’m gonna do it right, I might as well do it ALL correctly, even though I’m seriously considering just disconnecting the column shifter and going that route as opposed to a manual column.

All this is on hold until I sort out my fuel sending unit issues, which is hopefully solved next month.

Sweet ride. I enjoy watching the first gens find new life.

Sweet ride. I enjoy watching the first gens find new life.

I’m very much a fan of the first and second generations, the second for the v8 and more rounded body, but mostly the old square bodies as this is my fourth first generation.

I like the 2nd gens for the OBDII, but like the 1st gens for ease of modifications. Me and my girlfriend now have 5 Ex's total. 4 1st gens and one 2nd. The biggest is also the oldest, a 92 XLT 5speed, 5.5" suspension, 3" body on 35's.

You got a good looking rig there, I really like it.

Thanks, I hope to enjoy this one, it’s my first lifted vehicle and it’s taking some getting used to as far as the behavior of it. With that said, I definitely want to lift my other truck that’s in my signature.

A couple little updates, but nothing major.

I picked up a 2wd vent piece and modified it to get rid of the fake vent. I’m considering using this for extra switches for lights.

I also modified a manual transmission plate for the manual transfer case I have in the truck already. I also utilized an old socket rail for support for the one piece transmission/ transfer case trim.

That’s exactly what we did on our 94 sport in the space the transfer case buttons used to be, was put switches in there. 3 total the way we did it fit well.

I was in Oklahoma yesterday to pick up my daughter for spring break and I got to stop at LKQ in Tulsa. I found some parts that I had deemed extremely hard to find.

I didn’t NEED new headlight assemblies, being brand new aftermarket pieces, they were in too good of shape to pass up.

I found the actual dual shifter floor plate from a 93 Ranger, unfortunately the bezel was long gone, good thing I already found one.

I found the ever so elusive M5OD wiring harness, which I have determined is a 4.0 engine specific item for our trucks. The 2.3 and 3.0 harnesses don’t have anywhere near all the things built into ours.

Lastly, the guy I bought the transmission from found the spacer plate, so I got that picked up finally.

Liking the new rig and progress!

Liking the new rig and progress!

Yeah I’m slowly getting closer to being able to start my 5 speed swap. I think I have crossed off the nonsense items that would have driven me crazy to not have. Now it’s mostly hard parts left to buy.

I had some leftover spray tint for lights, so I gave it a shot to see what it would look like. I think it’s got a little bit more attitude now, and not so boring.

Comparison of new aftermarket light and stock foggy one. I made a breather hole in the new ones to reduce the chances of the problem coming back.

Found my old decorative intake manifold plastic cover.

I was doing some reminiscing on how I got started on the first generation explorers. It is interesting to see how far my trucks got their start and finish. All of the ones I am about to post pics of have been gone for a long time now, and to my knowledge only one is still in operation to another member on here.

The one that started me on this site in December 2010:

The one I tried to bring back to life but failed due to no title and bent frame:

And up to the one I am building on now, this was my personal favorite, and my only two door Explorer.

Anyways, sometimes you just gotta reflect on things, and the first one I posted in the Explorer Registry if anyone was interested in reading about it, just search my screen name, you will find my stuff. I was curious about all this last night to look into the past to now, so I decided to post just a few pics of my old trucks within this build thread.

Up until this current one, all of my Explorers have been 5 speeds, and so will this one once I get all the parts in. Yes, I saved the tube bumper from the pics above, and I plan to use it on this current build I'm working on.

diggin your build...and I'm probably on a similar track to you but just starting :)
