Ranger 93 XLT 2.3L
Eh all. Found yer site during a google search trying to learn some stuff.

I just bought a 93Ranger XLT 2.3L with a 5spd. The tires are in pretty bad shape. Plus the guy before me had 195/70-14". I like a bigger tire myself. Not like I'm looking to lift er' or nothing just something that fills the wheel wells a bit better. What would be the maximum sized tire I could put on the truck with out stressing the drivetrain to much? The main usage of the truck is hiway driving back and forth to work. Wanna try and keep good fuel mileage.

Hope you all can help and thanx for yer time.

i think i put 225 75 14's or something close to that on my 88 2.3l. Im really not sure of the exact size, but yes you can put bigger tires on the 14 inch wheels if you want. If your looking for a little more than that then you should upgrade to 15 inch wheels.

here's a link to my 95 with stock pics and 4x4 stock upgrade it was wearing 31x10.5x15 on stock wheels...with a little work i put 32x11.5 on the stock wheels and can go easily to 33's or???but here is the thing...you need to know what gears you have because bigger tires will lug your truck, more tire height = more lug...luckily mine had 4.10 gears but most are 3.83 or smaller...

Thanx for the quick replies.
I made a mistake. I bought a 94. Hope that it doesn't makes much difference. Thought I should set that straight.
Should I get better fuel mileage with larger diameter tires? To find out the gear ratio should I run the vin number by a dealer or sumthin'?

Welcome to Explorer Forum! I have a set of 15 Ranger wheels. Too bad I'm here in NC and you are in NY.
