'94 audio system?

'94 XLT and '99 EB
in my '94 xlt i have a kenwood cd/ radio that puts out 35 watts bt 4 channels. is this the stock setup, or did the originals owners order the premium system or something like that. i am asking this because i bought it used and i am curious. thanks for any help.

The stock setup did not include the Kenwood reciever you are talking about the previous owner must have installed it.

could it have been an upgradeable option like the mach systems in later models?

no, kenwood was never affiliated with ford. the previous owner bought an aftermarket headunit and installed it.
 






The only thing you would want to know from here is whether or not your Explorer was equipped with the stock amplifier, as some did not come with one (though rare). With this in mind, you might want to know if the amp was bypassed or if not. The amp is behind the panel on the passenger side, just behind the rear seat belt mechanism.
