Thought I would post some pics as I work on my 94 explorer 4x4. I bought it about a year ago with the intention of using it for Exploring off road around Utah. I drove it for a year with no mods except 31x10.50 x15's. It was obvious the suspension needed help so I started ordering parts. I got some deaver P62 leafs for the rear and some Deaver 2 inch lift coil springs for the front. I also picked up some parts to extend the radius arms. Shocks for the front are fox 2.0x10 2 tube bypasses that I had. Rears are Fox 2.0x 10's that I also had.
In the front I shortened up the coil buckets and made mounts off the top. Rear I made some bar pin eliminator and mounted the shocks in the stock position

Nice job. It looks like it would do very well:chug:

I have a 3" lift with 31x10.5x15 and it's hard to believe the places my explorer has taken me. I also removed my rear sway, bar and have quick disconnects for my front sway bar for the extra suspension travel. I was going to put a locking diff in the front, but this thing has taken me everyplace I wanted to go.

Nice work. This was me 20 years ago before the make it better bug really took effect. You are ahead on that you are already welding. I didn't start that until I got tired of paying people to do mediocre work.

That big wiring bundle directly behind the shock in the picture can be rerouted. Its usually protected by the inner fender, but when you remove that, the wiring is exposed. I believe the fuel pump and ABS wiring is in there. ABS, I can live without, fuel pump, not so much. I rerouted mine inside the frame rail, but the bundle was a lot smaller after I removed all the ABS wiring.

I took the fender liners out during fabrication. They have been trimmed and reinstalled.
Im 71, and retired. I have been welding for quite some time as that is what i did for a living. Building and modifying cars is my hobby in retirement Here is a pic of my other car I built

I like the Baja Bug. Had one when I was younger, have been looking at them lately. They are a bunch of fun in a small package.

They are a lot of fun. I've driven it thousands of miles off road. Not much vw left. Subaru powered. Full cage front to back

Yup I run Fox Shocks on my F150 and on one of my Early Ford Bronco's though. I bought the 7100's cheap off Ebay and rebuilt them myself.
Bilstein 7100's can usually be found at great prices not as popular as the Foxes and others.. Actually 2.0 shocks in general can be found at good prices. Everyone wants 2.5's.
If you google bilstein 7100 valving chart it will give excellent recommendations for valving

Yesterday a buddy and I took our explorers out for some snow cruising in the desert. Desert is beautiful in the winter and also uncrowded. We didn't see another rig all day.
Take away from the trip is I need to add some rebound to the rear shocks
