I am currently putting a clutch in a 94 explorer and noticed the pilot bearing was in the center of the flywheel.I thought it had pulled out from the crankshaft and went ahead and put my new one in the crank but after looking it over it looks like thats where they put it.I've replaced several clutches in 4.0 rangers and a few 93 back explorers and I always put the pilot in the crankshaft on those as well as anything else with a manual trans which went along with the books I was using at the time but there are pics on this forum that also show it mounted in the flywheel so now I'm wondering if I will have to pull my new bearing out and put in the flywheel? Can anyone explain the story on these?

Thanks,Yeah I pretty much figured that out.Im kind of curious what years they did that.Other 4.0 engines I've worked on went in the crankshaft so it's odd some would be in the flywheel.
