94 limited build

got home earlier then expected today and was able to get a look at the transmission in the light. Looks like a bad gasket. Once I got her full on fluid and ran her for a bit the leak started showing up.

New issue seems to be though that they don't sell individual gaskets, so I'd have to shell out 200 for a rebuild kit to get one. The guy at autozone recommends Permatex Red High-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker as a way around this. Having never used this product I'm unsure if it will work as intended.

"gasket" probably not. I called Miss Cleo and she sees it's the oil seal "the round thing around the shaft.". I agreed since those are notorious for pooping out.:(

Ditto, rear main seal.

So started pulling my first transmission, and damn the exhaust is a rusted
pain in the ass. Gonna see if I can borrow an impact wrench and an air compressor from a friend cause i've been unable break those bolts free.

Yeah that's Probably the hardest part about taking it apart , Once you get the Y pipe off it Helps Allot !

I may have just missed the pan while trying to drain the transmission yesterday..... but only a little spilled honest!

My transmission modulator has been bad for a couple years. Now that I am driving it regularly, I want to replace it. It doesn't leak all over though.

What's the easiest way to get around the exhaust, and the exhaust heat shield??

Hey Spicy , Let me know if you need a hand , i can try and come up there and help you out and give you some pointers !! I'm Located in Griffin Ga !!

Just pulled the downpipe on mine. I got the two bolts on the side out with an impact gun but ended up cutting the two outter bolts.

Trans is way easy to remove if you pull the TC and get 3-4ft of extensions to get the mounting bolts. Good luck, it's fun!

It's the weekend again and it's time to take a crack at the trans. After last weekend I've given up on the the y connector coming out without cutting the bolts to free it. The bolts are so rusted they might as well be stripped.

I think I'll be adding a new exhaust system to my list of things to do when I have money again.

I've gotten everything else removed and the bolts pulled. My latest trouble spots are the two upper bolts for the transmission, and the removal of the dipstick tube.

Taking a break for a beer before I take a look at it again.

Since I now sport a small cut on my forehead that represents my troubles with the dip stick tube removal, I figured I'd ask you fine people.

What's the easiest way to pull the bolt that holds on the dipstick tube in place?

I donno, I've never had to. Would dropping the tranny crossmember and allowing the whole assembly to pivot down a bit give you extra clearance?

Yes it would. Remove the t-case, then support the trans with a floor jack and remove the crossmember. Let the assembly down and you can get right to those the bolts. Fluid will drain from the rear of the trans so be prepared.

Removing the inner fenderwells makes life much easier, but I don't know if you are willing to disassemble that far. I did this when I converted mine to a manual trans.

The trans dipstick slides into a tube in the trans with an o-ring seal. It will just pop out once the bolt holding it at the block is removed. Then you don't have to worry about it hanging up as you remove the trans.

Sounds to me that you are almost there. Good luck and be careful, fingers are much more useful when still attached!:D

Okay, sounds like the plan for tomorrow then.
I've already pulled the passenger one and thats where I ran a ground with the dipstick tube. I just need to make sure i clean it before removal.

How much can you lower the engine and trans?

If I remember, it will drop quite a bit about 4-6 inches. I let it go until the intake touches the body, but don't let it hang there by itself. Keep it supported until you can remove the bolts.

The trans should stay in place when the bolts are removed. There are two locating dowls that will keep everything aligned. To be safe install one of the trans bolts that is easy to get at, until ready to drop the trans.

Once the bolts are out, then you can lift the trans/engine back up and block the engine between the oil pan and the engine crossmember so that it hangs slightly below its normal postion; a 2x4 works well for this. Then seperate the trans and remove it. Hopefully you have removed all the Torque convertor bolts? The TC should be removed with the trans.

Okay I have a feeling I'm missing a bolt somewhere.

I removed the bottom bolts for the trans, the ones near the wheel wells, and the one for the dipstick tube. Is there another near the top? cause when i push up on the trans i'm lifting the engine too.

yes there are two on top , i think there are 6 bolts holding it in maybe 8 can't remember off hand

Found it!

I also got the trans officially pulled and out from under the ex.
