94 limited build

Well, i'm officially lost. I don't know what I did but something got ####ed up.

I got everything back together, got her filled up and idling for a few minutes. But now it feels like she wont shift out of park.

make sure the sifter linkage is right. maybe you just didn't tighten/connect/align something.

Went through and re-checked, and everything is connected like it was before. I ran the truck for a bit and revved the engine after placing it into gear. it feels like it is shifting but still no movement.

Disconnected and pulled the starter marked the torque converter with a paint pen making rather decent sized mark.

Reconnected, started, and ran for a bit before disconnecting and pulling the starter. Torque converter is moving.

The rpms would move up to 3500 when the gas peddle was depressed. Then it would drop rpms to around 3000 like it just shifted.

Over all I just have no clue what it could be that seems to be causing my lack of movement.

Sounds like the torque converter is not seated properly in the trans , I didn't align mine properly and screwed up the torque converter and the Bushing it spins on , i replaced it , Worked like a charm , leaks fluid now , but made me a 1200 mile trip !

I have been pretty busy lately and haven't had a chance to respond.

It was as Bruce had said, I didn't align the torque converter properly and it got damaged. So it needed to be replaced, the fluid and transmission cleaned of any metal pieces that entered the transmission upon starting the engine.

Lessons learned:

A 2" body lift and a transmission jack would have made pulling the trans a bit easier.

After putting the nut on the first bolt on the torque converter, try to wiggle or shift the torque converter a little by hand if it's tight and hard to move you did something wrong, back the transmission out realign and try again.

Once again, once you tighten the first nut on the torque converter and it you try turning it to the next nut and it doesn't turn somewhat easily then something is wrong. You shouldn't have to force it.

So, after 6 months and replacing the maf sensor last month, the ex died on me again on the way back from chatt.

All the symptoms point to the main trans seal again.

With as much as I'm driving all over Atlanta for work, I may just have to sell her and buy something with better mileage.

Okay, I really feel like we're all missing something, cause I've been driving my x all over the Rockies of colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, and the worst that's happened to me is a blown water pump in over 50k miles.

Wish I knew. But losing the main seal twice in just over six months, the Maf sensor, pulley tensioner, airduct has pretty much drained my emergency fund.

I will Gladly Take this off your hands ! , Sorry to hear about all the issues coming up , I know how hard it is to find a Good used trans here in Ga .

I Tried to Pm you but your box was Full .

Just cleaned it.

Transmission has been rebuilt and been running great.

Today however I had a new issue. She won't start at the end of the day.
ran her to work and during lunch. Had no problems but when i went to crank her to go home it was like she wasn't getting enough fuel.

Listened for the fuel pump and didn't hear it engage at all. I'm thinking it's a relay? since I haven't had any of the standard signs of a fuel pump dying.

Left her at work for the night and grabbed a ride home with a coworker.

Turns out it was the relay.

You can switch out the relay for the A/C Compressor or ABS system to test your theory. Easy and free.

Wow it's been a year since I last posted. I haven't done much with my Ex besides basic maintenance, work has been taking up all my time this past year. I've been putting quite a few miles on the old explorer and I'm at the point where I need to do some improvements.

I have the feeling I'm gonna have to replace the fuel pump soon. I've been getting a loss of power and a stutter at idle similar to what you get when the fuel to air ratio is off. this also occurs at highway speeds and on inclines.

I'm gonna replace the fuel filter tomorrow and add some fuel injection cleaner to the gas and run it till it's close to empty.

If it's still having issues I think I'm going to drop the tank next week.

Turned out to be one of the vac lines.

So got the vac line fixed, knocked out a plug and wire replacement and then took her for a drive on the freeway to check how she handled.

My power loss issue has been solved and everything went great until.....
a rock got kicked up and hit my windshield.
