so I was reading an old consumer report from back inthe ex's hayday. (yeah I know, lame) and it mentioned that the 94 limited's came with some kind of digital gauge cluster.

Does anyone have a picture of this? Or can take one for me?

I also think they had a different wheel that the xlt's. Does anyone have a picture of that?

Might be good cheap upgrades for my 92

Thanks in advance.

Matt

i hope someone can get a pic.

if this doesn't work i'm thinking of redoing all the factory gauges with auto meter stock.

I dont have pics, but I've seen said cluster/wheels. The wheels are really spokey, like old fashioned cars/bikes (if you've ever seen an MG-B, those wheels), the gauge cluster (spedo, trip, RPM, etc) looks the same...*shrugs*

*ish trying to find pics*

Edit:
Heres a good shot of the wheels:

I couldnt find a good shot of the gauges, but I've ridden in plenty of '94 limiteds. Nothing 'seems' different, but there is a top-mounted digital thermometer and garage-door-opener type dude.

i just installed the limited gauges in my X.

they are identicle to what i allready had, but instead of some of the letters and pics on the gauges being yellow, there blue. and the tach out of the limited redlined at 5k, where as my truck original tach redlined at 5500rpm.

onlything digital they could be talking about is the roof mounted center console. i know it has a read out, but since its in the junkyard, i dont know exactly what it says. lol

I just took apart a '94 limited at the junkyard (it was mint too, I wish I could have taken the whole thing).

Dash is the same as in a sport (blue lettering) the EB and some others have dash with the tan lettering. Steering wheel is the same as the regular ones, and it's got the spoked wheels as shown in the pic above. They have full leather seating with memory driver's seat, JBL audio with the sub (not as great as you might think) and more sound deadening in the interior.

Only digital part is the overhead console which shows compass and temp and is the same as the ones in the newer explorers. It also has the autolamp/autotinting mirror as well. I took the overhead console and mirror and installed them in my truck, just a lot of wires and some relays. You don't need it but it's cool to have, and the autotinting mirror is awesome.

The steering wheel is a different color and leather, I still have that and my 93 dash. They are nothing special enough to go hunt for, at this age now.

The stock SW's are black, my 91 has a black wheel I plan to swap this into. They get nasty in the sun after a lot of years.

yeah my wheel is pretty nasty in the sun.

I guess the digitql gauge cluster was there name for the overhead console. I might look into that sooner or later. I see how the steering wheel is different and I like it but I might as well buy a grant or something cool.

Thanks guys for the input!

anyone know why the limited's tach redline's at 500RPM less then my xl one? i decided to only swap the 4 smaller gauges of the limited set up onto my truck. so i still have my yellow speedometer, and tach. im going to grab the overhead console today after work as long as its not raining. anf for the steering wheel, i installed a mazda navajo one. (plan on swapping navajo tails, and even the front end at some point)

The engines are all the same, and shifting is under 5000rpm anyway. The overhead console may mount the same as the later trucks, which are easier to find.

ok, went back tot he yard for the overhead console, and mirror. went through over 15 different explorers. the blue lettered gauges are not in just sport models! i found them in other 4 door non limited's, and some sports, its like a 50/50 deal that have them.

now here's the really goofy thing. every truck there no matter what style of gauges had the redline on the tach at 5000 rpm. why does my truck have it at 5500 rpm? i know its just the gauge itself, but i just find it wierd after going through all these truck's, mine is the only one ive seen with this redline.

Did the truck year have any effect on that stuff?

just got done installing, and doing the basic wiring up the overhead console. less then an hour to do. talk about easy!

my 92 didnt have the opening for it, and to clear the snap in clips, or where the bracket itself slides in, but i just drilled them out, and it worked. great mod. updates the whole interior quite a bit. still need to finish up the rest of the wiring though.

PICS!

So what all can you get out of the over head console. I assume temp, time, maybe compass, mpg,ODO,?

It's just the temp and compass, plus storage for a garage door opener. Mine has been acting up lately, I might need to replace it.

how does it get the temp?

Do you have to get a sensor out of the donor car

The exterior temperature sensor is at the front of the radiator. The EATC AC system has two of them up front.
