Can someone identify which of the solenoids are the 2nd gear shift solenoid on a 95 Exp 4.4 V6 Transmission VALVE Body?
I know there are two shift solenoids on the passanger side.
and on the Driver's side there are four solenoids - Starting from the Rear driver side - 1st is the TCC solenoid, then the other two in the middle are the Shift solenoids and then the fourth is the EPC solenoid.
My question is: which of these 2 shift solenoids on either the Passanger side or Driver side is the 2nd Gear shift solenoid? Please respond. I received code 646 which seems to indicate either the EPC or 2nd gear shift solenoid. I know which one is the EPC, but don't know which is the 2nd gear shift solenoid. Any help appreciated. Thanks again.

Cecil, according to my ATSG manual, the SS2 (second) shift solenoid is the one next to the EPC solenoid. On the bank of 4, it's the third from the front.

The second from the front (directly after the TCC), is SS4.

On the other side, the frontmost solenoid is SS3, and the rearward one is SS1 (it's next to the low/reverse sevo cover).

This info is from a 5R55E manual, but I'm sure the 4R is the same. Hope this helps ya.

Cecil, are you sure that's correct? My book shows the TCC as being the frontward solenoid, and the EPC being the rearward one.

Engine - TCC - SS4 - SS2 - EPC

This is the relationship of the bank of 4 solenoids.

Don, Thanks for the response. I have a 4R55E. does it make a difference?
I was at the dealer today and the parts guy printed me a picture of the valve body and said it - engine, EPC, SS, SS, TCC. Now when I asked the service writer and Transmission mechanic at the dealership to identify the Shift Solenoids - SS- for me, they didn't know (or claim they don't know - Said they have to look at my valve body to determine $89.00 min). The parts guy didn't know, that why he referred me to the mechanic.
When I look at my solenoids, the Front driver side solenoid looks bigger than the other 3. The two SS in the midle looks alike and then the 4th rearward solenoid has a little plate on it used to bolt it to the housing, while the two SS, in the middle, uses the locking bar tab to hold the solenoids against the valve body. Could you scan/e-mail me the page you have? e-mail it to cbridgelall@att.net .
I'll appreciate it. I can e-mail you what I have from the dealer. Thanks again for you help.

He's correct. the 2nd from the rear is SS-2. I have the 4R book and it is just as described by Runnin On Empty.

Thanks Glacier991. I appreciate both you and "Don's" response. I'll be switching those solenoids out now and see what happens.
