Hey guys. New to the forum obviously but I'm not new to cars. I own an 03 WRX making over 300 horses to the wheels. I do all my own work but this isn't about me...
I flooded my girlfriends truck a few months back and I had the engine replaced with a rebuilt. I took the truck to her dads mechanic against my will. I was trying to make everyone happy at the time. Well the truck ran fine for a month or so then it started having some problems. It seems to start up fine and runs ok for a while but then the CEL comes on and it usually stalls. She took it to the mechanic(toolbag) that did the work and he won't fix it because he says he's not responsible. Whatever.....I'll fix the damn thing.
He did, however, write on the receipt that the DPFE sensor and the air temp sensor needed to be replaced. After researching, this seems like a job I can do with my eyes closed.
My question...should I take the mechanics word for it that these are, in fact, the problems with her car? Should we spend the $100 on these two sensors and the whole 15 minutes of my time? I was considering taking it to Autozone to get the codes scanned to make sure but it's a hike and I'd rather not have to make the trip. Do these symptoms sound like the DPFE and Air temp sensor need to be replaced? Any chance you guys could give me the codes for these two problems just in case I do get the codes scanned?
Thanks for any help in advance and I look forward to getting her truck back on the road without having to worry about her stalling out on major highways anymore
