95 XLT Control Trac
Hi all,

Been browsing the website for about a week now. Looks good and provided lots of helpful tips and knowhow, but I couldn't find the answers to all my questions.
I just recently purchased a used 1995 Explorer Control Trac 4WD. I love the vehicle, but it has a few problems. Nothing major, but they would all be nice to be able to fix.

Neither of the power mirrors work. I don't know if it is because the driver side mirror is broken (and taped on), somehow causing both mirrors to quit functioning, or it its something in the electrical. The fuse is good, so I'm not sure what next to check.

Neither the keyless entry or the key remotes work in the vehicle. I tested the batteries in the key fobs and they are good, but won't lock or unlock. I tried going into the program mode but it never cycles the door locks, and the keypad on the door doesn't work with the stock code, nor will lock the doors holding 7/8. I'm thinking this means the RAP module is bad? If I can find one at a junkyard should this fix my problem? I don't really have the money or desire to buy a new one.

The bigger section of the back seat (passengers side) won't fold down. I hit the lever and push and it feels like it is jammed somewhere in the middle of the seat, near the hinge. Any thoughts on how to loosen it up? I was told I should remove the seat which would provide easier access to the problem area, but it seems a daunting task as I don't know where or how it is connected to the frame behind the seat.

And finally I have the factory 6 disc changer, but the previous owner installed a kenwood deck and now I can't control the cd changer. I don't have the keys to remove the head unit, so without being able to check behind the deck I don't know if it's just not hooked up to the deck (or even if it can be), so is there a harness I can get to connect it or would it be possible/ easier to find a stock 95 radio and attach that?

Thanks to any who can help

Only problem I can give a little info on.

If you don't have the keys to get the radio out allen heads work well usually. But easiest way is to take out the two screws located under the radio, above the heater controls (upside down) and then you can pull the whole radio bezel out and pop out the radio.

The stock 6 disc won't work with an aftermarket radio, so if you really want to use it than you will need to put a stock radio back in. But doing that will make the radio sound worse. The aftermarket radio makes everything sound better than the stock radio. Aftermarket = MUCH better quality.

Ok, so basically I should just ditch the 6 disc changer?

Anyone have anymore experience with the RAP module? (Aldive..?)

Yes, ditch the 6 disc, not worth loosing quality, lol.

As for the keyless entry, could there be another alarm or security system installed? I know thats why mine doesn't work - because I have keyless entry with my viper alarm (therefore the code panel isn't even hooked up anymore, and the original door unlocker-keychain thingie doesn't work either).

Worth a look I guess, you can check for a relay point under the dashboard somewhere, if you see a little button that is tucked away, its probably an alarm system relay.

Why'd they disable it? A normal place wouldn't have, cause there's no need to. It's better to keep it connected just incase, like leaving the keys in the car, use the keypad, dead remote, etc.. I don't understand the reason to disconnect it.

Nah, I don't think there is anyother alarm hooked up. I'll check but I doubt it.

I found a scrapyard where I can get a RAP so hopefully I can hook that up and make sure it works (assuming it was my problem) before paying.
New mirror is 80 bucks, and used the guy wants 60 so I think I'll just let that stay broken.
And I have removed the cd changer and put an amp in its place.

Still no luck with the back seat though.

Does the handle feel like it has some resistance on it? like it's actually moving something? Or does it just feel like there's a spring on it and that's all? I got mine down onetime without the handle, but it was a while ago and I don't remember how, tomorrow I'll look and see what I can find. I had something jammed against it and it wouldn't move.

It doesn't feel like it's moving anything. It's very easy to push I assume it's just a spring or something. I'll have to get under the seat tomorrow and look while I push on it

this is why you need a pull a part out there!

DOOR MIRROR (OUTSIDE REG) - $6.05, warranty - add $1.05

lol. i feel spoiled with it being 10 minutes away.

Wow that's ridiculous. It said those prices were on the low end of ones they offer, but that's still a heck of a lot better than 60

So maybe the linkage, wire, whatever it is is broken. I'll see if I can see how I did it tomorrow if I remember.

Yeah. When I got in my wreck, I had to replace both quarter panels up front, headlights, grill, bumper, radiator support, hood, hood latches. I got all the parts for less then 180.

OMG, so lucky! lol

:D I know. My family is always contacting me for miscellaneous parts if I can find it. Shoeboxes are main box of choice, lol. Plus I get to learn how to take stuff apart without having to worry. Junkyard 101, best way to learn.

lol, def the best way. Where you from again? maybe it would be cheaper to have you get me stuff and ship it then ebay, lol. j/k

Dunno - I bought the truck like that. At first it didn't make sense to me either. but some things there are no answers to I guess.
