I have a 95 Explorer 4 wheel drive, had the transmission rebuilt 2 years ago and now when I put it in revers or drive I get a loud whining noise from the transmission.
The noise stops when I get up to 5 to 8 mph. and returns when I stop. I have checked the fluid and the engine light is not on and the O/D light is not flashing.
The whining seems to be louder at the transmission instead of at the toque converter but it's had to tell.

Any and All help would be most appreciated in solving my whining noise.
Thanks mo816

Since the trans runs on fluid pressure, it can be a lot of things making that noise. First guess would be a pump. But a passageway can be blocked by a clump of gunk, causing low pressure at low rpms.

There is also the possibility that it is the T-case, not the trans. I would take it into a shop and get it pressure tested, and have the codes read before throwing any $$ at it.
