95 XLT 4WD issues

Hello,

I am hoping someone here can help me out with this issue.
I recently bought a 95 XLT 4WD, it has 2WD, 4WD auto, and 4WD lo options on the dash selector. When I bought it it wouldn't move at all but I shifted into four wheel low and it engaged all gears. I jacked it up and removed the transfer case motor. With the motor off the transfer case, and all four wheels off the ground, it properly shifts into 2WD, 4WD auto and 4WD lo. When I replace the motor it will not shift into anything but 4WD lo. I replaced the motor and got the same result. I am stumped and do not want to pull the transfer case if it is a simpler issue. Any Suggestions?

I've been reading a lot of info on transfer case/4wd issues and no one seems to be having the same exact problem as me. If anyone has any input her it would be extremely helpful.

With the motor removed, how can the TC possibly shift from 2WD to 4WD? The motor drives the internal mechanism to bring about the shift change. Do you mean the transmission shifts normally with the motor removed?
