95exploderboy's Full Width SAS

Well I've been collecting ideas and parts for a long time now and its about time I started posting something. First off I'm gonna say that this might take a while because of the frequency that I go away for work, but I will make sure to keep everyone posted as I make progress. I have nearly all of the major parts bought and sitting in the shop, so now all I need is the time to put my SAS "kit" together.

What I have planned...

The Front
1979 F150 HP Dana 44
4.88 Yukon Gears
Aussie Locker
All new Timken bearings
Warn Premium Hubs
Stock Shafts for now
Wild Horses 5.5 springs
Stock radius arms with stone crusher extensions and heim joints
Chevy TREs with 1.5" Dom
Toyota Steering box
Square driveshaft

The Rear
1978 Ford 9"
4.86 Richmond Gears
Detroit locker
Disk Conversion
4 door hybrid leaf springs

The plan is to use the 79 upper coil buckets, not sure how I'm compensating for the full width yet. Gonna try to space the bottom coil mounts in enough to keep the springs straight. The arms will be located via a new transmission cross member/RA mount. The arms measure around 40 inches that puts them right under the transfer case. The rear will be SOA, shackles will be adjusted to level everything out. Still not sure of what will happen to the body lift, I'll see how I feel about it after I wheel it a few times.

Something is missing

Sweet extended jack stands. They are good for about 30 inches and have a broad stable base

Ordered Pro Comp ES3000 shocks, a Rockstomper hydraulic reservoir and new rear spring perches to correct the rear pinion angle and drive shaft drop issues.

Not looking forward to coming back from Dubai and working in a cold shop though...

Just have my doubler shifter to finish up and my hydraulic steering res.

As a side note, I should be picking up my trailer tomorrow :D

Yes I know its tall. The BL will come out when its warmer or I flop it, whichever comes first. I also think that I need tires with less backspacing since I rub my radius arms right now. Plus, wider is better.

Feel free to post up your thoughts.

Looks great.

I dunno about tires needing less backspacing, but you miiiight wanna look into rims with better spacing :D :p: Looks good, when we goin' wheelin??

What happened to the yellow?

Oh faaantastic!!

looks awsome man, one day ill have somone do a swap for me as my ability is not even close to pulling it off....................

Very nice! Looking forward to seeing some daytime pics and some closeups of the suspension & steering.

Congrats man.

You know what I meant, I was just excited I guess.... Seeing how they were your rims, can I get my money back? :D

What happened to the yellow?

Ha, the yellow went away when I cleaned up the 9", its a boring black now...

you could have at least washed all the grinding wheel dust off it :)

Looks good..except for the tall thing like you mentioned...

I coulda done that, but then it woulda been likely that the doors would have frozen shut. It was in the 20's that night. Plus, its been down for a year, I really don't care if its dirty, I just wanted to drive it.

Oh faaantastic!!

Oh yes it is. I've got a few things to do to it on Saturday.... Anyone wanna wheel RC on Sunday?????

IZ, Micah, any idea what the measurement from the ground to the top of the front fender opening or maybe door handle is on your beasts? I wanna see how it compares to other rigs I've seen in person.

No, you can't have your $$ back :D :p: (Didn't I give you those anyway..?)

Holy freakin' rust on the doors, Batman! Are you going to herculine/spray over that at least?

allow me to be the last to subscribe in a fashonably late maner with a simple "im jelous"

seeing those 5.5" springs on your truck gives me great hope for my truck. I locktited the body lift so i dont want to take it out, but i also dont want a rediculous ride height, but yours looks good. i'll be starting out with tires about that size also. is that a 2" or 3" body lift? and can we get some good detail shots of the trac-bar/steering pump area, and your coil mounts?

sweet ride. you should bring it to the badlands this summer.http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198140&highlight=badlands+08

You mean steering gear? Cauz he doesnt have a steering gearbox, he's got a hydraulic steering valve -- its full hydro

Which reminds me, exploderboy, so what turned out be the reason for the huge fluid difference in the reservoir?
