- 1996 Ford Explorer XLT
Good Morning would like to pick ya'll brains on a problem I'm having issues with.
A few weeks ago, I bought a 96 Explorer XLT 4.0L 4x4 for an extra vehicle, more for the wife's Rabbit business. I paid $250, and it was thought that it had a locked up motor. Them thinking it got me the truck at a lower then expected price. Dropped a new battery into it, and tried to start it, just a loud ding as the starter hit the flywheel, motor didn't turn over, tried twice more. Same thing, washed the age off since it had the black residue from sitting under the tree, went to roll the windows down and went a little to far on the key, motor turned over.... Surprised at this I tried a couple more times. Motor seems fine, no dis coloring in oil from sitting, no rust coloring in radiator.
Truck won't start, checked relay, and fuse. Nothing.... Next tried to hear the fuel pump, nothing. Replaced fuel pump, cleaned out tank since it had at least 2year old fuel in it. Put tank back in with new pump. Tired turning truck over, and it fires up. Let it warm up for a few secs not wanting to hurt the motor with the old oil, shut the truck down. Close everything up and go inside. Once wife gets back from store, tried showing her that it would start...... Nothing. Won't start, no studder or sign of trying to kick over except for motor rotation. Check fuel rail, no pressure. Checked pump that was just changed out, working. Replace fuel filter under driver side floor pan. Done.
But even after that, even after trying to pressure the line back up, it doesn't spit anything out of the test point. When I removed the old filter the fuel looked clean. No junk in it. Spilled from both fuel lines before and after filter. I made sure to place the filter in the right way so it's not reversed.
So around $400-$500s later no running truck, didn't see any thing extra like a high pressure pump after filter like I had on a 87 Ranger I owned. Not sure what could be the problem from here, unless the test point is damaged and isn't closing so it will pressure up. But I have no clue. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
